If you wait for something to break before strengthening it, it’s already too late. When everything works is the best time to build even stronger. And that is what we did.
At France-IX, we have 99.998% availability. No major outage, the infrastructure is redundant, monitored 24/7, and we have been operating for 16 years.
Rather than resting on that, we chose to ask ourselves a different question: what could we do to make our offering even more robust?
The answer: a second traffic exchange point in Paris, completely sealed off from what we already operate.
It is a second, independent peering network, on a hardware and software platform separate from the one we already run.
Two infrastructures sealed off from each other, with no shared point of failure.
Why does it matter? Because redundancy, even crossed, doubled and redoubled, on a single platform is not enough to achieve resilience.
We are building a whole second community, making the service itself resilient, not just one platform, with the advantage of being run with the same France-IX expertise and the same reliability you already know.
This second LAN is also a more accessible gateway for players who would not otherwise have joined France-IX: small ASes, operators for whom the French market is secondary, ISPs from South-East Asia or French-speaking Africa.
Strengthening the sovereignty and resilience of the French internet also means broadening the ecosystem. The more players interconnected locally, the more robust the network collectively.
Next week, I will tell you more about it.
The name, the prices, the terms. And for the first to join us, we have planned something 😉
