Sales is still a human profession. And humans can’t be scripted.
Sales scripts are the best way to sound like everyone else. And sounding like everyone else means speaking to no one (and closing no deal).
I’ve been in Sales for 25 years. What still strikes me today is the obsession among business school graduates with finding the perfect script.
The thing is, when everyone uses the same flow, the same open-ended questions, the same way of talking, it simply doesn’t work.
For a very simple reason: we’re not robots.
Every prospect is a person with their own background, their own challenges, their own stakes. They have their tone, their context, their priorities, their company culture.
They’re a human being first, not a line in a CRM.
That’s a big part of why I love in-person meetings. Actually meeting someone face to face.
Video calls are convenient. But meeting in person is the best way to truly understand your market and read between the lines. With someone physically in front of you, you access a whole dimension of their personality that a screen simply can’t capture. You can adapt, sense, and adjust in real time.
Sales is still a human profession. And humans can’t be scripted.
You can’t get along with everyone. But you can genuinely try to understand each person.
And if you’d like to meet for real too, see you at the Peering Days in Bologna 👋
