How does Internet traffic flow, for example between your company and a cloud service provider?
Rather than giving long definitions, I tried to illustrate it with this mini-game: peering vs. transit (use your computer’s arrow keys to move the data packets through the Internet flow).
Of course, it is a game, and it caricatures, but it shows the complexity hidden behind data transport.
Detours, instability, espionage… Our data transport choices define the security, confidentiality and performance of our exchanges.
Transit and peering should not be set against each other as mutually exclusive services, quite the contrary: we need transit for the universal reach of Internet routes it offers, and we use peering to reach the routes that are essential to the business.
I can only invite you to try it for yourselves!
