Build an IXP from scratch, modernise an existing one, train local teams until they are fully autonomous. That is what France-IX can now offer its peers with IXP as a Service.
After 15 years spent building and operating our IXP, this offer distils our expertise: network architecture, equipment deployment, 24/7 operations, team training…
Available to any IXP that is interested, the offer is built around three modular blocks:
1. Build
For an IXP to be created from scratch: network architecture design, delivery of the HLD and LLD, equipment selection and deployment, full commissioning with IXP Manager, route server set-up and connection of the first peers. All in line with Euro-IX standards. The client IXP specifies its needs and France-IX delivers an operational infrastructure.
2. Operate
For an existing IXP with a small team or an infrastructure in need of renewal: France-IX takes over all or part of the technical operations. 24/7 monitoring, customer port management, level 2/level 3 support, technical on-call, monthly reporting.
3. Transfer
What sets this offer apart from simple outsourcing is that the end goal is the autonomy of local teams. Whether through technical training or operating procedures, our aim is to pass on knowledge.
For example, in 2025, France-IX supported HubSIX (the Senegalese internet exchange point), from help with the architecture design to the full configuration of the equipment: servers, Nokia switches, hypervisor cluster, VMs, IXP Manager services, DNS, monitoring tools, training of technical teams, delivery of operational documentation…
A turnkey project, delivered with a transfer of skills so that the partner IXP can be autonomous.
France-IX was built by a community, for a community. IXP as a Service applies the same logic at national and international level: sharing expertise, strengthening local infrastructures, contributing to a more decentralised and more resilient internet.
